about
This is a song that tells my personal story of attending in-patient care because I was battling suicidal thoughts. The room I was in felt like a jail cell. I spent about a week there, locked in the thoughts of my wounded head. I wrestled with how to get out of the rut, how to live again, and if it was even possible. The hospital I was in was a place that could ultimately lead me two ways; life or death. The same place I was in that had the potential to save my life, also had the potential to take it away, but only if I allowed it. Out of that sorrow came this song. It's an honest song, and just a little part of more honesty to come with an album laced in reflection and redemption. Sometimes the words we have the hardest time saying are best said through music. If you feel downcast, lonely, or don't have the words, I hope this song will help point you in the right direction, and bring words to the parts that are hard to say.
lyrics
I got ways to tell you why I won’t make it through
And these four walls tell the tales of some who do
Day after dusk I reach for the cold
Just to freeze the machine rattling my bones
Meds in a cup, sister says to drown them down
But my beating heart is the only thing keeping me around
The place I go to save my life is the place I can die
All I’ve been feeling is nothing inside
So burn the highways, light another fuse
I’m caught between living and emptying fumes
The city is alive with it’s heartache
And it’s vital signs are keeping me awake
Those streets ain’t empty like they used to be
Somewhere I can still see my footsteps along the concrete
Meds in a cup, sister says to drown them down
But my future bride is the only cure keeping me around
The place I go to save my life is the place I can die
All I’ve been feeling is nothing inside
So burn the highways, light another fuse
I’m caught between living and emptying fumes
